P.S.H.E  Personal, Social and Health Education.

Children’s well-being is at the heart of everything we do.

At Fairlawn School we focus on the holistic development of our pupils and we recognise and value that our learning in P.S.H.E underpins all aspects of our curriculum and experiences.  We want our children to feel safe, healthy, valued, respected and listened to in order to build healthy and positive relationships now and in the future.  Supporting the emotional well-being of our learners is at the heart of what we do and we recognise that this is vital for our pupils’ development and learning journey.

We follow the Jigsaw P.S.H.E programme in all year groups from Early Years.  In September 2020, Relationships and Health Education became compulsory in all primary schools in England. The Jigsaw P.S.H.E programme covers all aspects of compulsory Relationships and Health Education and lessons are planned and delivered in a sensitive, spiral, age-appropriate way. Every year group, starting with Early Years, has a weekly timetabled Jigsaw session.

Each term has a new Jigsaw Puzzle Piece:

Jigsaw

In the first week of each term we launch our new Jigsaw Puzzle Piece theme with a whole-school assembly. In February we have Safer Internet Day with an assembly and activities across all year groups to discuss how to keep safe online. We also plan activities around Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week. We celebrate those who support us in our community and enjoy our visits from outside agencies such as the fire service and the police.

Other school wide PSHE events include:

  • November: Anti-bullying Week
  • December: Our annual Fairlawn School Winter collection for North Bristol Foodbank.

In 2022 we are excited to start our journey to becoming a Rights Respecting School and taking part in the United Against Bullying Programme.
